NUMBER OF THINGS TO SEE AND DO CAN
SEEM OVERWHELMING….”
The ‘Silver City’ prides itself in its rich
Western history, preserving and heavily
promoting its plethora of ‘western’
activities and events. The Arabian
Breeders World Cup has taken place
in Las Vegas since 2007 and, also this
year, it has been a blowout celebration.
From 12th to 15th April 2017, the event
returned to the South Point Equestrian
Complex for the tenth consecutive year.
A judged competition, it showcased the
natural beauty, nobility, excitement and
unique characteristics of the Arabian
horse breed while providing a lively and
entertaining experience for both breeders
and those new to Arabian horses.
Presented by the Arabian Horse
Breeders Alliance, the Board consisted of
Directors: Scott Bailey, Robert Boggs, Jay
Constanti, Kimberly M. Jarvis, Lawrence
Jerome, Murray Popplewell, Robert
North, James Swaenpoel and Jeff Sloan.
The ABWC show committee members
were Executive Directors: Phyllis
LaMalfa; Show Manager, Taryl O’Shea;
Sponsorships/VIP Coordinator,
Scott Bailey; Commercial/Corporate
Coordinator, Kelly Charpentier and
Public Relations Director, Riyan Rivero.
The six-person panel of Internationally
renowned judges included: Leslie
Connor – USA; Terry Holmes – USA;
Klaus Beste – KUWAIT; Jack Maritz -
SOUTH AFRICA; Dr. Nelsom Moreira
– BRAZIL; Irina Stigler – RUSSIA and
judges Coordinator: Beth Hunziker. In
their role of Ringmasters: Juan Stuckey
and Dennis Eikenberry; Show Secretary
Mary Kanaga; Show Announcer: Tony
Shubert while the music could only be
that played by Kristoff Heymans.
The breeding classes were conducted in
the European style using the World Cup
Scoring System, similar to the one used at
the All Nation’s Cup in Aachen, Germany
and at the World Championships at
the Salon du Cheval in Paris, France.
Entries represented the United States
and 25 other countries and included
world champions, previous World Cup
champions and dozens of US National,
Scottsdale and international champions.
The excitement and energy you could
feel at the 2017 World Cup was electric!
When each class entered the arena, hearts
were pumping and hopes were high…

The beauty and magnificence of the

to watch in the ring and breathtaking
against the lights of the South Point
Equestrian Center. Captured in a
breathtaking moment by Avalon show
photographers, Senior Stallion Fadi Al
Shaqab (Besson Carol X Abha Myra)

Championship seemed to float on air
through the ring. His ears and wide
nostrils took in the sights and sounds
of the onlookers with his proud tail
carried high. Silver medal winner the

Allen and Marian Corrow Rogers owned

Through the use of the European style of
showing, the 2017 Arabian Horse World
Breeders Cup Show emphasized a more
natural way of preparing, presenting
and showing the horses so that their
true Arabian spirit could shine in the
arena! All efforts of the AHBA were
concentrated on creating an event that
was to be irresistible to the public -- one
that touched the attendees’ heart and soul
and made them think: ‘I want an Arabian
Horse’. For years to come, Las Vegas will
whisper about those wonderful days
of Arabian horses at the South Point
Equestrian Center. Some will share that
time as the moment they fell in love with
the breed; others will express how their
passion for horses was rekindled. All will
remember the magic…
